Radiohead lanza nuevo tema: "Staircase"

El nuevo tema remite a TKOL pero a la vez recuerda otros pasajes de la basta discografía de los ingleses, tiene mucho groove, tiene funk, pero hello, hay dos baterías, una electrónica y otra real (Kid A ejem) y guitarras con arpeggios que van mutando a lo largo de la cancion (In Rainbows ejem), la voz de Thom y los synthes sobrevuelan una fría superficie sonora (Amnesiac, ejem).

Sobre el otro pelado que toca la batería (electrónica en su caso), el de siempre, Phil Selway, aclara: “And no, you’re not seeing double. The doppelganger drummers are myself and Clive Deamer. Clive has long been one of my favourite drummers and so I was really excited when he agreed to perform with us. Hope you like what we’ve all done.”

En definitiva, no es un hit, pero a eso no se dedica esta banda. Es un viaje, que al minuto ya te tiene agarrado de pies y manos, cosa que si acostumbran estos muchachitos. Lo de Greenwood es de otro planeta, del resto me gusta la mezcla de las distintas ritmicas y las texturas opuestas de la doble linea de bata. Con eso dicho les dejo la prueba para que uds mismos descubran que hay detrás de este nuevo tema.

Ya salio The King of Limbs, lo nuevo de RH

Ah, esto fue lo pusieron en DEAD AIR SPACE (su blog y sitio oficial) sobre el lanzamiento de TKOL:

La cosa es así, para dejarlo clarito. Este sabado, 19.02.2011, vas a poder entrar al sitio oficial de The King of Limbs (así se llama la nueva placa) y bajartelo a cambio de una suma de dinero en dos formatos digitales: Mp3 por nueve dolares o WAV por 14 verdes. La diferencia como sabrán es la calidad, en WAV vienen los CDs por lo que si te interesa el sonido (si sos fan de esta banda te debería interesar) deberías ir por la segunda aunque todos sabemos que el dinero manda. Jonny Greenwood se compraría el Wav si no fuera el guitarrista y multi-instrumentista de la banda y no lo tuviera gratis. Hasta ahí vamos con lo del sábado. Ah, me olvidaba, también el sábado van a lanzar a través de innumerables sitios piratas que todos conocemos el mismo álbum pero por la suma de cero dolares (mmm, creo que no son ellos los que lo publican en esos sitios pero voy a averiguar jajaj).

Luego, para el 09.05.2011, osea en mayo, vamos a poder adquirir (ya esta a activado el presale) la versión diario. Es como que te viene un Clarín con el disco de Radiohead con noticias sobre la vida de Thom Yorke y su novia, un tabloide onda The Sun Uk. Na, no es así pero podría. La idea igualmente es que si tenga el aspecto de un diario y de ahí como una declaración política y artística de lo que se proponen. Este diario contiene dos vinilos de 10′, un Cd, mucho pero mucho (625 piezas) artwork (seguro tan genial y sombrío como su tapa) y después como siempre, con estas versiones obtenes una descarga del disco en versión digital para tu Ipod o tu mp8 trucho. Ademas, si compras el segundo pack que cuesta 48 dolares con el digital en Mp3 y 53 con el Wav, podes ser uno de los suertudos ganadores de un Vinilo de 12´con dos temas firmado por la banda. Creo que el productor Nigel Godrich se pinta los labios y le da un besito para mejorar la experiencia (no confirmado).

Ahora yendo al disco en si. No lo escuche, por supuesto, pero si lei mucho y hay quienes dicen que puede llegar a ser un album corto, de ocho o nueve temas con intro y outro (aunque cada cancion puede durar 9 minutos y ahi cambia todo). Tambien hay muchos que especulan con miles de canciones que dan vuelta la web o que tocaron en vivo como “The Present Tense” o “Super Collider“. Si sos de esos mirate este super mix con todo lo raro que podria incluirse en esta placa:

Pero por otro lado en el magazine Viceland afirman haber escuchado lo que sera TKOL, de manos de Ed O’Brien, el otro guitarrista de la banda y al parecer seria un disco corto, conciso, bien político y lleno de critica a los grandes lideres mundiales (los miembros de la banda son activistas y en cada causa por el medio ambiente o por la justicia en el mundo ellos se prenden) pero nada es seguro.  Me dejan con dudas porque al final (no lo incluí por horroroso) confunden a Kid A con Pablo Honey. Al primero lo tratan de BritPop y al segundo de Electrónico. Wtf? Si es un error de tipeo puede funcionar igual pero sino estamos ante seres muy ajenos al sonido y al estilo de la banda hablando y diciendo ganzadas. Aquí les dejo el análisis (en ingles) que hacen del disco:

1. INTRO 1
Johnny Greenwood’s lush orchestral opener contains virtually no words, except for a brief refrain at the end, where Thom intones over and over in his most morose vocal: “War. Killed. Me. I. Died. In. A. Big. War.”

2. INTRO 2 (INTO THE BATTERY FARM)
“Babies’ eyes/Babies’ eyes/cancer, flies, thyroid pies,” laments Thom, on this beastly overture, reminiscent of “The National Anthem”, or perhaps “Killer Cars”, while Johnny Greenwood plays a timpani with a zither as though the planet’s alternative fuel options depended on it.

3. P£T£R P£PP£R
The first of the tracks that Radiohead composed by riffing over whatever was playing on Fearne Cotton’s Live Lounge during that day then erasing the original track, “P£T£R P£PP£R” is Thom’s deeply personal reaction to the events of the banking crisis. It is an angry rant at the 12% per annum depreciation in the value of his Oxford mansion over the past three years, for which he holds Sir Fred Goodwin personally responsible, juxtaposing the dramatic collapse of RBS and a local tableau of his house-selling circumstances.
Key lyric: “Cardboard boxes/Files for the shredder/Did Foxtons call, hon?/End of my tether.”

4. THE OBSERVER
Where would the ‘world’s first newspaper album’ be without the ‘world’s first newspaper song’? An interlude similar to “Fitter, Happier…” in which Victoria Coren’s Observer columns are read chronologically by the late WWI Tommy, Harry Patch, over a nine minute slice of “Bieber 800%”.

5. TAILBACK ON THE LUNAR EXPRESS
Radiohead’s most challenging composition yet. Consisting in its totality of a single note on an acoustic guitar played in a metronomic four beats to the bar, it reputedly took the group two years just to build the studio set-up that would allow them to create the perfect take, during which time Nigel Godrich had three nervous breakdowns and began hallucinating that he was a tick on the rump of Aztec king Montezuma.

6. RAPE ALARM
Like “Nude” on In Rainbows, this is Radiohead stripped bare: a song that will send goose-shivers up your spine, down your aorta, straight into your left ventricle, killing you. Only play if you’re on statins and have a BMI of less than 25.

7. CREEP II
A Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps-style updating of the material that first won them fame, “Creep II” is a tender ballad that finds the same character approaching middle-age, reflecting on his traumatic unrequited love, looking her up on Facebook, then expressing a high degree of schadenfreude in finding out that she’s fat, newly divorced from her jock asshole high school sweetheart, working in a call centre for EDF Energy in Stratford, and lists Amy McDonald and The Beatles as her favourite musicians.

8. CALLS WILL COST £1 PLUS STANDARD RATE. CALLS FROM MOBILES MAY BE CONSIDERABLY MORE
A hurricane scree of “Idioteque” electronic noise and acid jazz with a bassline sampled from the Fat Alberttheme-tune and replayed on a baguette, over which Thom spits his most barbed lyrical darts yet.
Key lyric: “Louis/Liar. Cheryl/Chernobyl. Dannii/Dachau. Simon/Srebrenica. Pouty face/Cross face. Backstory/Sob story. Red tops/Top off. Best bits/Montage. Black one/Gay one/Old one/Comedy one. Vote me off/Lead me on/Put. Me. Down.”

9. FML
A clear marker that the Oxford quintet have been keeping pace with the most cutting-edge music of the Twentieth Century, this is a gloopy, ethereal noisespace that sounds like Burial jamming with M Ward in a nightbus at the bottom of the Thames on a mixing desk made of ennui and marmalade. Lyrically, the Iraq Inquiry comes under Thom’s microscope as he contrasts Tony Blair’s testimony with the sex scenes glimpsed in his memoir, A Journey, and directly addresses Cheri Blair.
Key lyric: “Mrs, how did your huge mouth kiss his lips that lied?/Did you moan as the Iraqi children cried?”

10. OUTRO II (INTRO)
As a stuttering, almost tango beat builds from wafts of diaphanous electronic noise in the background, three minor chords ring out insistently on a grand piano, and a single cello etches a heartbreakingly rich, redolent tattoo of warm, regretful passions, over which Thom Yorke sings about how much he loves pussy.
Key lyric: “Pussy. Pussy. Pussy/Slurp. Slurp. Slurp.
Slap dat, lick dat, split dat, spit dat.
Girl your coochie get so moist/I ain’t got no other choice.
Big ones small ones fat ones thin ones/Don’t give a fuck/Long as I’m in one.”

Las canciones incluyen cosas grosas de David Bowie, The Who, The Clash, The Faces, John Mayer (covereando Kid A), Sonic Youth, Interpol, The Pixies, Radiohead, The Smiths, Sigur Ros, The Kinks, Joy Division, John Lennon, Bob Dylan, Creation así como también cosas sorprendentes de gente con poca fama por estas latitudes como Phoenix, Death Cab For Cutie, Department of Eagles, Sarah Blasko, Of Montreal (que barretteano que suena eso), The Morning Benders, Kevin Shields, Violent femmes, The Filthy Youth (si, la banda del tipo “malo” (Chuck Bass) de “Gossip Girl” jajaj) entre muchos otros. AH! También esta el nuevo single de los Arcade Fire “The Suburbs” y “Month of May”. Bueno, basta de palabrerio, ahora les dejo el mix que lo hice en la genial web 8tracks, donde pueden crear mix y son catalogados ustedes como djs y la gente viene y los escucha. Bueno ustedes también hacen lo mismo, van y escuchan, en este caso a mi. Las reglas: No mas de dos canciones del mismo autor, no mas de dos de un mismo álbum y que sean ocho o mas canciones. Luego, el caos pasa reinar y deleitar.

Ah, me olvidaba, esta play tiene un gran influencia (así parecida a la de Coldplay con U2, Brian Eno, Radiohead, etc jajaj) de la banda sonora (OST) de “Rushmore“. Peliculón de Wes Anderson que hoy tuve el agrado de escuchar su recomendación en la radio (mi palmada virtual para Santiago Calori de “No Somos Nadie” de la Rock&Pop 95.9). Si pueden, no duden en mirarla y apreciar un poco mas de ese esplendido director de cine bien pero bien actual. Un aplauso tambien para Bill Murray y Jason Schwartzman.

Y para si quieren, pueden ver una de las mejores escenas de la movie, uno de esos momentos increibles del cine: La pelea entre los personajes de Jason y Bill al ritmo frenetico de los fabulosos Who!
